Science of ShelaseUp to 45% of middle-aged and elderly women have symptoms associated to vaginal atrophy. Vulvovaginal Atrophy (VVA) refers to the changes seen in the vaginal mucosa and the vulva due to loss of oestrogen after menopause and in other hypoestrogenic states such as in breast cancer patients on Tamoxifen or even in breastfeeding postpartum women. Shelase is a non invasive treatment for the symptoms of vaginal atrophy as a result of childbirth or the menopause. Unlike alternative laser treatments, this revolutionary device harnesses the power of mixed technology to rejuvenate the health of the vagina. The Shelase laser treatment has previously demonstrated significant improvement in GSM symptoms in postmenopausal women.
Mixed TechnologyShelase can deliver GaAs 1540 nm and CO2 10600 nm lasers in the same micro-dot with sequential or simultaneous emissions to get a tunable balance of ablation and coagulation depth and to offer new and more effective treatment standards to the patients. The mixed modality is scientifically proven to improve symptoms of vaginal atrophy including vaginal itching and stress urinary incontinence, and is a reliable method of treating concerns relating to dryness and discomfort.
HistologyShelase produces a fractional pattern of micro-dots of coagulated and ablated tissue separated by healthy skin. Used in Mixed Mode, the wound dimension is related to the total energy delivered by both lasers. In most cases, the histology shows complete reepithelization in 3 days. The pictures shown report results after only 1 session at maximum 60 days follow-up. The Mixed Mode increases results and improves outcomes in one session with no down-time for patients.
Non-hormonal Treatment ApproachThis laser treatment is a non-hormonal treatment approach for Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). The concept behind laser procedures to treat vulvovaginal conditions is the use of a specific wavelength. A response is initiated due to the ablation and heating and results in tissue remodeling with the reformation of collagen and elastic fibers to the vaginal wall. Muscle tone is then restored by tightening the supportive structures of the vagina. The Shelase device permits a dual laser treatment for effective vaginal mucosa’s resurfacing and tightening. It uses the Mixed Technology to perform an exclusive mixed treatment of the vaginal mucosa by non-ablative and ablative wavelengths in the same time. The treatment is performed delivering two laser wavelengths in the vaginal tissue to stimulate the production of new collagen to regain the normal vaginal elasticity.
It reduces trauma during treatment while the non-ablative laser penetrates deeper into the tissue to maximize the regeneration effect in a gentle way, with no bleeding and no recovery time. The treatment is not invasive and causes very minimal discomfort. The combination of the two laser wavelengths maximizes the effectiveness and the improvement of the overall treatment comfort.
